Carraway
African Blackwood
A tree in the family Fabaceae native to seasonally dry regions in Africa. This dense, lustrous wood ranges from reddish to pure black. African Blackwood is especially valued for its use in woodwind instruments, such as clarinets, oboes and piccolos and was highly valued by ancient Egyptian furniture makers.Birdseye Maple
Birdseye is a type of figure that occurs most notably in hard maple. This distinctive pattern resembles tiny, swirling eyes that disrupt the grain lines in the maple. Birdseye Maple is valued by woodworkers for this unique and attractive pattern and is often used to make furniture legs, pool cues and automobile trim.Hand-turned Wood Body
Two complimentary species of wood are first spliced, glued, drilled, and plugged leading to a distinctive wood figure. Using a lathe, the pen body is then shaped, sanded, and finished through a detailed multi-step process.Stainless Steel Hardware
The custom designed clip and cap are formed from solid stainless steel using a lost wax casting and precision milling technique, respectively. Once formed, the pieces are tumbled and hand polished to a highly lustrous shine.Rollerball Writing System
Our Exemplar line features the SCHMIDT EasyFlow 9000 rollerball writing system. Rollerball offers less feathering and shorter dry time than gel ink, and a smoother ink-flow than a ballpoint. Factory testing shows an expected writing lifetime of 2,500 meters per insert for this system.
